For clients who want access to coaching and advising from a design research perspective, I offer ‘use-as-you-need-it’ hourly rates.

Researcher-in-Residence

Interested in a big project but worried an outside firm isn’t the right fit? As your researcher-in-residence, I will join your team - email, Slack, and all your internal tools - for a set amount of time to run the project internally.

This approach allows for more collaboration with your team and the ability to have more conversations in real time. This deeper integration of my time leads to richer learnings and provides more exposure to the process for your team. This is my favorite way to work with organizations as I get to know your internal systems, connect the dots, and go deeper than if I am working “outside” of the organization.

As a perk, all recruiting, systems, and findings, including the smaller ones that may not make it to a final deck, stay internal with you.

You’d like to include team members in the whole research process.

Project-based Design Research and Strategy

Need an external researcher to develop, execute, and synthesize design research for you? That’s where I come in.

Together, we will define the problem you’re looking to solve, which voices you need to include, and why, and I’ll start the design research process, looping you in at key moments. We’ll touch base regularly, and once the design research process is complete, I’ll present you with my findings—which may include small fixes, new language, and cultural insights. From there, your team can integrate the research findings in whichever ways they need.

You’re looking for someone to lead and execute the design research process for you.
Your budget doesn’t allow for a researcher-in-residence contract, but you’re seeking research support.
You’d like to engage in a research design process but prefer using an external researcher instead of one embedded into your day-to-day work.

Sustainable Research Systems Design (ResearchOps)

We’ll work together to build a sustainable and equitable research system in-house, keeping the needs of your team and organization in mind.

We’ll build out the necessary pieces for recruiting, maintaining, scheduling, and paying users so your team can focus on the conversations, not the logistics. From there, your team is set up for success to do research on their own.

Our work will focus on integrating into the systems you already use, making it more affordable and sustainable for your team to use moving forward.

You’re looking to build out research operations within your organization within your existing systems
You have a small team that is dedicated to research but needs help setting up the systems and research flow to make it happen in an efficient and effective way
You’re looking for a sustainable research system, not someone to do the research for you (but if you’re looking for that too, this can be paired with Project-based Design Research and Strategy)

Hourly Advising and Coaching

For clients who want access to coaching and advising from a design research perspective, I offer ‘use-as-you-need-it’ hourly rates. These generally cover topics like research plans, recruiting participants, facilitation guidance, and junior designer mentorship, but are flexible to meet your needs.

This may be for you if…

You don’t have the budget and/or need to hire someone to conduct research for you, but you need advice to make it happen.
You have someone on your team with an applicable background as a jumping-off point.
You’re looking for a lighter touch option where I coach you at key moments in the research or research ops development process.
